A DSC favorite, Red Mountain Resort, Rossland, B.C., is one of the best destinations for January snow, averaging 51” fresh and a foot more during La Nina winters. Snow is also the backdrop for Winter Carnival. Dating back to 1898, this Rossland town takeover is the longest running and most popular celebration of Winter in Western Canada.
Join us for a festive weekend skiing the abundant terrain of Red Mountain Resort, enjoying Club socials, and mixing with our Northern neighbors celebrating Winter Carnival!
RED MOUNTAIN - #1 Ranked Most Acres/per Skier in North America
Described as the last great, unspoiled resort, Red Mountain has managed to keep the laid-back feel of a small ski hill while accessing a huge 3850 acres of pristine skiing. Offering 119 runs and 8 lifts, Red has abundant slopes for all skill levels, from wide-open groomers to steep chutes, and some of the best tree runs in BC. All the stats, maps, and hype are here: www.redresort.com
WINTER CARNIVAL - A parade kicks off an abundance of activities over the course of four days that would be tough to fit all in. Highlights include the ice bar—an adult snow fort serving beverages and live music, winter sports events, a music festival at venues throughout town, retail therapy, and of course the infamous homemade bobsled races.
THE TRIP - There are two options: Full Price for $475.00 which includes lodging and socials, and Social Events Only for $85 which includes only social events. Carpools will arrive Thursday evening after one of the easier drives to a B.C. resort, weather permitting. We ski Friday, Saturday, and Sunday until your carpools’ desired drive back time. A hotel room is available Sunday to shower/change clothes if desired prior to the drive back. Winter Carnival events go day and night throughout the weekend. Your trip leader will provide the schedule of activities with some recommendations when released. It’s up to you and your friends what Carnival events to take in.
We stay at a Rossland intown hotel within a few minutes’ walk of Carnaval activities and 15 minute drive or shuttle ride to Red Mountain. Enjoy our small hotel take-over at the Flying Steamshovel Gastropub and Inn www.theflyingsteamshovel.com Known for its 20 craft taps, cocktails, house made eats, & comfortable boutique rooms. Winter Carnival is the busiest time of the year for Rossland., B.C. and trip participation will be limited by lodging availability. Rooms at similar intown hotels may become available that would allow us to add participants. If you have a preferred roommate, you can specify that when you register for the trip. Social events include a welcome gathering Thursday evening and a group dinner Saturday evening at locations we’ll select when the Winter Carnaval details are released.
Lift Tickets - Trip participants are responsible for their own lift tickets. Your IKON Pass works at Red Mountain. Those without an IKON Pass can purchase day passes online or at the resort. Red Mountain 24/25 ski season day pass rates will be announced in October. Several discount options for advance and multi-day purchases are available online.
Canada Entry Laws – A friendly reminder to be aware of all requirements for border crossing into Canada and back. You are responsible for determining your admissibility, what you bring, and travel I.D. documents required. Canada denies entry to anyone who has received a DUI within the last ten years. Don’t be that guy/gal stuck at the border!
WHY YOU SHOULD GO - It was a lift conversation. I asked a local as we rode Red’s Paradise chair, when’s the best time to ski Red Mountain? Winter Carnival, he said with a big Canadian smile. Red Mountain is one of my favorite ski destinations because of its incredible terrain, frequent good snow, friendly locals, and yes, I’ll say it, favorable exchange rates. I’m super excited that we’re able to do this during Winter Carnival. Plenty of live music, great food & drinks, and activities make up this embrace of winter happiness. Let’s celebrate winter together!
